Wellness therapies
- Abhyangam – Is a customized medicated oil application or massage with specific implications to the 107 vital points (marmas) of the head and body. This therapy is the base for all other intensive external therapies in Ayurveda.
Benefits - good for general relaxation and rejuvenation, mental tranquillity, helps alleviate fatigue, reduces muscular stiffness and improves tone, improves joint flexibility and delays ageing, good for the eyes, helps in getting sleep and improves skin texture, colour and strength.
Duration - Prescribed medicated oil is generally applied on the body and head gently for about 45 minutes or as per the guidelines of the Ayurvedacharya.
- Sirodhara - a very popular but highly specialized and intensive form of treatment for the Nervous system in which medicated oil is gently poured over the head in a uniform, continuous oscillating stream.
Benefits - Improves various disorders of the nervous system like Facial paralysis, Hemiplegia, Parkinson’s, Alzheimer’s disease, Dementia, Neuralgia, migraine/headaches, insomnia etc. Also provides relief and relaxation from Stress.
Duration - Generally this therapy is performed for about 45 minutes or as per the guidelines of the Ayurvedacharya on the basis of the patient’s constitution, ailment and strength. It is advisable to associate Abhyangam (as described above) with this therapy for maximum benefits.
‘When medicated buttermilk replaces herbal oil (sneha), the therapy is called Takradhara. If medicated milk is used instead of medicated oil, then the process is called Ksheeradhara’.
- Udvartanam - application of herbal powder mixed either in dry form or with oil. This powder is rubbed upwards on the body.
Benefits - good for weight reduction and improves muscular tone.
All the above mentioned treatments are conducted for specific illness, but can also be experienced by a perfectly healthy person in order to enhance his/her immunity, vitality and longevity of life.
These treatments can be offered in different packages according to the physician’s analysis of the patient’s Doshas, Constitution (Prakruti), Dosha & Physical strength, Disease and Age. Each of these combinations gives a curative/rejuvenative effect after being performed for definite period and repeated at definite intervals.
