I am a fourth generation Ayurveda Physician, with an experience of more than 14 years. I have been trained in Kerala Panchakarma at Arya Vaidya Chikitsalayam and Research Institute, Coimbatore (AVP) under the guidance of the senior most physicians and Medical Directors. I completed the Ayurvedacharya (B.A.M.S.) Degree from Shree Lakshmi Naryana Ayurvedic College, Amritsar under the Guru Nanak Dev University (Amritsar).
In the past I have headed Ayurvedic treatment centres at Apollo Sindoori Hospital, Chennai, Inlaks & Budhrani Hospital (Under Sadhu Vaswani Mission), Pune and recently at Ayush Therapy Centre (Hindustan Unilever Ltd.) Shivalik, New Delhi.
Besides being a clinical Physician, I am also an Ayurveda Spa Consultant and have been part of the team instrumental in setting up Ayurveda Spas for Kama Ayurveda Ltd. at Purity Spa, Malabar Escapes, Cochin and Trident Oberoi, Chennai.
About Dr Avilochan Singh’s Ayurvedic Lineage
In the town of the Fifth Sikh Guru, Tarn Taran, Bhai Mohan Singh ji was born on 7th March 1881, into the family of Bhai Jaimal Singh ji, who was himself a known Vaid (Ayurveda Practitioner) of his times. At a younger age itself he mastered most of the Sanskrit texts of Ayurveda and other religious Granths and advanced his Vedic knowledge and higher studies by learning from his Vaidraj father and Sant Ishar Singh.
In December 1902, during the epidemic of Plague in Punjab he wrote a book “Maha Mari Dhaman” in which he explained simple ways of treating Plague and also specially manufactured and distributed medicines for treating plague.
In his short span of life, he wrote around 170 books on different facets of life. In Ayurveda, besides translating major Granths like Charak Samhita, Vagbhat, Bhavprakash, Gauravta Ayurveda, Ayurvedic Shastra into simple Punjabi, he wrote more than 40 books on different topics of Ayurveda giving simple household ways to treat everyday ailments like “Sidh Akhidhi Bhandar” (How to live hundred years of Healthy Life), “Vedic Sikhiya”, “Kutamb Chakitsa” and “Chikitsa Ratan”. He also wrote a book “Nadi Darpan”, on how to examine and understand pulse diagnosis (Nadi Pareeksha) by Allopathic, Unani and Ayurvedic means.
Along with Ayurveda, he also studied and translated into Punjabi many books from Allopathic, Homepathic and Unani medicinal systems describing different ways of treatment.
He started a monthly magazine called “Dukh Nivaran”, describing symptoms and simple treatments of different diseases, especially seasonal ailments.
Over a period of number of years, he had accumulated nearly 20,000 books written in Punjabi, Hindi English, Urdu and Pharsi along with many monthly magazines/papers, which were available in his Library – Bhai Mohan Singh Library.
Sardar Sukhbir Singh Ji Vaid was born on 8th December 1920 in the family of Bhai Mohan Singh Ji, Tarn Taran Punjab. From childhood he followed his father’s ways of life and started his vedic education from the age of 13 years. By the age of 16 years he had mastered many Vedic Granths before his father passed away. He continued his education and practical knowledge under his elder brother Bhai Trilok Singh Ji Vaid along with writing small articles in the monthly magazine “Dukh NIvaran”. By the age of 20 years, he had been educated in most of the Vedic Granths in Sanskrit and Punjabi and further more had gained more understanding of Ayurveda under Sant Swaroop Singh Ji, especially the art of “Nadi Pareeksha”.
In 1947, he opened a clinic in Paharganj, Delhi and passed his L.A.M.S exams from Delhi University in 1950 obtaining the Diploma of Vaidya Kaviraj. While practising in Delhi he further advanced his Ayurveda Knowledge and expertise in “Nadi Pareeksha” from Pandit Vaishist Ji of Bhivani. His mastery in Nadi Pareeksha often enabled him to find clues to hidden disorders of his patients, provide them the best treatment possible and giving them relief from their long standing ailments.
